The East Zone squad for the Duleep Trophy 2025 was announced on Friday, and was riddled with a few surprises. India keeper Ishan Kishan, who plays for Jharkhand in the domestic circuit, was picked as the skipper of the squad, while Abhimanyu Easwaran, who is with the Indian squad for the England series, has been named his deputy.

This decision could have come on the back of some solid performances by Ishan Kishan at the County Championships. He turned up for Nottinghamshire, where he returned with scores of 87 and 77.
Interestingly, Mohammed Shami was also included in the squad, who was ignored for the England series. Apart from that, 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who was impressive in the U19 ENG tour, was picked in the list of stand by players. The East Zone selectors convened a meeting at the JSCA International Stadium on Friday, to make the announcement.

Other India caps in the squad include — Akash Deep and Riyan Parag as well. Meanwhile, the tournament would start on August 28, and will be held in the zonal format of six teams, to mark the beginning of the 2025-26 season.
