Dubai Capitals have defeated Desert Vipers by four wickets to win their maiden ILT20 title

Dubai Capitals lifted their maiden ILT20 title after beating Desert Vipers by four wickets in the final on Sunday. A wicketkeeping error from Vipers’ keeper Azam Khan proved to be costly for the side as Rovman Powell guided Capitals to their maiden T20 title as a franchise. With DC’s win, Royal Challengers Bengaluru are the only franchise among the 8 original teams to not win a T20 title yet.

Capitals win maiden ILT20 title

Batting first, Vipers managed to reach 189 runs towards the end of 20 overs. They had a nightmare of a start after losing both their openers – Hales and Gurbaz – within the powerplay. It wasn’t long before Dan Lawrence departed after scoring just 10 runs. Max Holden (76) and captain Sam Curran (62*) then took it on themselves to power Vipers to a massive total. Azam Khan’s 13-ball 27-run cameo helped Vipers post a target of 189.

In response, the Capitals lost three early wickets, with Warner, Naib and Billings falling for single-digit scores. The score would have been 46/4 but that was not the case, thanks to Azam Khan dropping Powell. The Caribbean star smashed 63 runs off 38 deliveries and along with Sikandar Raza (34 off 12) ensured that the Capitals got across the line with four balls to spare.
