Virat Kohli has reclaimed his throne. Mohammed Siraj has extra responsibilities now. Are Rohit Sharma and Kohli in Team India’s long-term ODI plans? Has Gautam Gambhir picked Ayush Badoni because of their LSG connection? What will happen if the ICC doesn’t accept Bangladesh’s demands? What happened in Rajkot between India and New Zealand?

DRS 1

Ro-Ko SA

Although Chairman of Selectors Ajit Agarkar had labelled Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli as non-committal for the 2027 ODI World Cup, India batting coach Sitanshu Kotak has stated that the veteran batters are very much part of the plans for the ICC event. Kotak added that Rohit and Kohli provide input to other players, as well as to the head coach, Gautam Gambhir.

Bangladesh pull out

By claiming they won’t lose any money by pulling out, BCB has threatened to withdraw from the 2026 T20 World Cup. The ICC has been trying to change BCB’s stance on travelling to India, but the BCB is adamant about wanting to relocate their matches.

DRS 3

Badoni

Krishnamachari Srikkanth has once again accused head coach Gautam Gambhir of showing bias. The former chief selector has made the explosive claim that Ayush Badoni has been selected as Washington Sundar’s replacement for the ODI team just because Badoni plays for LSG, which Gambhir mentored in 2023 and 2024.

Kohli No.1

Virat Kohli has reclaimed the No. 1 ODI batter mantle for the first time since July 2021. After his 93-run knock against New Zealand in Vadodara, Kohli overtook Rohit Sharma for the top spot. Kohli first reached the peak in 2013 and has occupied it for 825 weeks over his career.

DRS 5

Mitchell/Rahul/India fielding

New Zealand has levelled the 3-match series at 1-1. Courtesy of an unbeaten hundred by Daryl Mitchell, the Kiwis claimed a 7-wicket victory in Rajkot. Mitchell’s knock overshadowed KL Rahul’s 112-run innings, where he rescued India from trouble. After the hosts lost, Shubman Gill rued the missed opportunities as India dropped three catches and missed a run-out.

DRS 6

Siraj captain

Mohammed Siraj has been named Hyderabad’s Ranji Trophy captain for the second leg. The fast bowler has been playing for the state since 2015 and will be leading for the first time in his competitive career. Rahul Singh has been demoted from captain to Siraj’s deputy. Aman Rao is expected to make his first-class debut.
