Virat Kohli’s Test retirement shocked some. But considering his dry spell, it was coming. After failing in Australia, which was Kohli’s favourite scoring nation after India, it was expected that he might either retire or be told to leave. The former happened as a month before the England tour, Kohli announced that he’s leaving red-ball cricket.
Kohli could have played Tests until 2028
His former India teammate Manoj Tiwary thinks he could have played for 3 or 4 more years. Everyone knows fitness wasn’t an issue at all for Kohli. Yes, runs had dried up, but could he have been told to push through, as success was around the corner?
“No way. So he (Kohli) could have easily played for another three years minimum and four years. It was very surprising and shocking for all the cricket fans, including me as well, because all we knew that he’s so physically fit and he was preparing himself for the England series,” Manoj told CricTracker.
Is Team India’s dressing room atmosphere toxic?
The all-rounder reckons something happened behind the scenes. But Manoj knows that Kohli won’t reveal anything about the matter. But he thinks all isn’t well inside the Indian dressing room. And Kohli’s exit could have been due to what’s happening in there.
“I don’t know what happened. What is the story behind the scenes? I think he was not feeling like he was wanted in Team India. Only he can say. I think he will not come out and ever say this thing in public forum because the human he has become. I don’t think he will come forward and ever say what has happened behind the scenes.”
“But as a cricket lover, things that are happening around Team India, the cricketers like us who know a little bit, we all know what’s happening behind the scenes. I think he did not like the atmosphere he was playing in,” he added.
