Central Zone’s Dhruv Jurel will not be a part of the semi-final clash against West Zone which will begin on September 4. The keeper-batter, who was named captain of the side ahead of the start of the tournament, missed the quarterfinal due to a groin niggle. Jurel is now expected to be on the sidelines for a longer period of time due to an illness.
No Jurel for Central Zone in Duleep Trophy semis
As per Hitavada, Central Zone head coach Usman Ghani claimed that Jurel is suffering from dengue and hence won’t be able to participate in the Duleep Trophy semi-final. He stated that Akshay Wadkar has been named as the keeper-batter’s replacement. In Jurel’s absence, Rajat Patidar led Central Zone in the quarterfinal against North East Zone. Earlier, a report had claimed that Jurel would miss the semi-final due to his groin injury. However, that is not the case.
“Yes, Wadkar has been included in Central Zone team since Jurel is suffering from dengue. He is not available for the next game and we needed one more stumper in the side,” Vidarbha and Cent zone head coach Usman Ghani said.
Jurel was last seen in action in the IND vs ENG Test series where he kept wickets in the absence of an injured Rishabh Pant. Apart from Jurel, Kuldeep Yadav has also withdrawn from the tournament as he will be traveling with the Indian squad to Dubai for the Asia Cup 2025.
