Daryl Mitchell continued his solid showing in the ODIs, especially vs India, as he notched yet another fifty in the format.

New Zealand middle-order batter Daryl Mitchell doesn’t get as much credit for his superb showing, as he deserves. An all-format player, ODI seem to be his speciality, where he is ranked 2nd in the ICC rankings, just behind Virat Kohli. An average of over 55 in 58 odd innings in the format is just too good to be true, and he just keeps on bettering on the record.

Daryl Mitchell in line to surpass Virat Kohli

In the second IND vs NZ ODI in Rajkot, he slammed yet another 50 in his career, after he scored 84 in Vadodara. In fact, his last few innings in ODIs; all have been productive. In the previous series vs West Indies, he returned with scores of 119, then vs England scored 44, 56, and 78. In short, in his last 6 inning, he has crossed the 50-run mark five times.

What is also evident is, he relishes batting against the Indian team, against whom, he averages over 60. After all, in 12 matches he has 543 runs to his name, including two tons as well. To add to that, he is chasing Virat Kohli, to be the World No. 1 batter now in ODI’s, with only one point separating the two.

The Indian is at the helm with 785 points, and the Kiwi batter is at 784 points; and in all likelihood, that mission would be achieved, considering the damage that Daryl Mitchell inflicts in the Rajkot match.

4th Fastest to 2500 runs

Additionally, Mitchell also became the 4th fastest in the world (58 innings), to reach the milestone of 2500 runs. The list is headed by India’s Shubman Gill, but the Mitchell happens to be the fastest to the mark, in New Zealand. Prior to him, Kane Williamson had the record to his name, in 63 innings.
