Chennai Super Kings youngster Urvil Patel has created history yet again in the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. The 27-year-old, who was signed for Rs 30 lakh as a mid-season replacement by the 5-time champions, already holds the record for the fastest hundred scored in SMAT. Now, he has added another feather to his cap as he smashed the third fastest century in the history of the tournament on Wednesday.
Urvil Patel slams 31-ball 100 in SMAT
The Gujarat captain slammed 11 fours and eight sixes en route to his 31-ball century against Services at the Gymkhana Ground in Hyderabad in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025 opener on Wednesday. Urvil finished with 119 runs to his name off just 37 deliveries, hammering 12 fours and 10 sixes. Services’ 183-run target was a cakewalk for Gujarat, thanks to the 174-run opening partnership between Patel and Desai. Gujarat won the match b 8 wickets.

Although the youngster played just 3 games in IPL 2025 after being signed as replacement for Vansh Bedi, Patel left no boxes unticked to remind CSK that he is just the middle-order batter they were looking for and could also possibly be MS Dhoni’s replacement in the future. He managed to score just 68 runs but showed glimpses of his ability to be destructive in the middle-order.
