Harry Brook’s last-minute decision to pull out from IPL 2025 could be a blessing in disguise for an out-of-favour Prithvi Shaw. After being released by Delhi Capitals ahead of the mega-auction, the Mumbai batter found no buyers and went unsold. Now, he stands a chance of reuniting with the franchise, thanks to Brook withdrawing from the tournament.
Can Shaw reunite with DC, thanks to Brook?
Shaw was associated with DC ever since he made his IPL debut in 2018. He played 79 matches for the franchise and amassed 1892 runs. While he started his career with the Capitals on a high note, his form saw a dip over the last few years. His best season came in 2021 where he went on to score 479 runs from 15 matches. Incidentally, that season also saw his best average in IPL – 31.93. However, his last two seasons saw him play only 8 matches where he scored 198 and 106 runs respectively.

Shaw has been embroiled in controversy ever since the first leg of Ranji Trophy in 2024. He was dropped from the Mumbai squad for being overweight. In addition, the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) had also levelled allegations of indiscipline. While he did get chance to redeem himself in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, he squandered the opportunities leading to his exclusion from the squad for the second leg of Ranji.
His woes were only compounded after going unsold in the IPL 2025 mega auction. However, he might be handed a lifeline and can potentially re-enter the DC squad with Brook not participating. Shaw is a good choice for the Capitals as he has been associated with the team for a long time. Besides, he is familiar with the opener’s role for the team. However, it remains to be seen if DC will once again place their trust on Prithvi and give him another chance.
