The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has reportedly rejected the request of Team India to stay with their families during the T20 World Cup 2026. The board has decided to stick to its policy which was implemented way back in January 2025 wherein the players were restricted from staying with their wives, fiancées or families during a tournament. Suryakumar Yadav’s Team India are playing the T20 World Cup at home and kick-started their campaign on a victorious note by beating USA on Saturday.
BCCI says no to Team India
As per The Indian Express, the Indian team management had asked the BCCI for permission for players to travel with their wives or fiancées during the T20 World Cup campaign. The board reportedly categorically rejected the request but said that players could make separate arrangements if they wished to do so. The report claimed that support staff members had informed the board of some players not opting to attend informal team meetings and planning sessions, following which the BCCI decided to reiterate the policy.
“The Indian team management had approached the BCCI to ask whether wives and fiancées can travel with the team and whether they can also stay with them. The board has made it clear that families won’t be staying with the players. They can make separate arrangements, though, if they want to,” a BCCI source said.
What do BCCI’s rules say?
- Players are allowed to have family members with them for a maximum of two weeks on a tour of 45 days or more.
- For shorter tours, family members can accompany the players for a maximum period of a week.
- Players will need to pay for additional expenses if family members stay during the tour for more time than prescribed.
- Players must travel together in the team bus.
- Personal staff including managers, agents and chefs must stay in a separate hotel.
