India Women were to tour Bangladesh for 3 ODIs and 3 T20Is in December.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has postponed the India women’s cricket team’s upcoming white-ball tour of Bangladesh. The series was going to be India’s first outing for Harmanpreet Kaur and co. since they won the Women’s Cricket World Cup.

The tour was also going to be India’s only series before the 2026 edition of the Women’s Premier League (WPL), which starts in early January. But the tour has been postponed. According to ESPNcricinfo, the BCCI has written a letter to the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), informing them to reschedule the series for a later date.

The diplomatic tensions between the Indian and Bangladeshi governments can be labelled as the reason behind the postponement. In July, the BCCI had postponed India’s men’s white-ball tour of Bangladesh as well. That series was pushed back from August 2025 to an unconfirmed date in 2026.

“This decision has been reached following discussions between the two boards, taking into account the international cricketing commitments and scheduling convenience of both teams. The BCB looks forward to welcoming India in September 2026 for this eagerly anticipated series. Revised dates and fixtures for the tour will be announced in due course,” the BCCI had said in a statement in July.

Bangladesh captain targets Harmanpreet Kaur

While the political tension might be the main reason, it might not be the only one. Earlier today, Bangladesh captain Nigar Sultana Joty had insulted India captain Harmanpreet Kaur. Sultana has been accused of physically assaulting players by current Bangladesh player Jahanara Alam.

While defending herself against these allegations, Sultana brought up Harmanpreet’s name. “Why would I hit anyone? I mean, why would I strike the stumps with my bat? Am I Harmanpreet, that I would go around hitting the stumps like that? Why would I do it?” she said.

It’s safe to assume Harmanpreet or BCCI won’t like such comments. While they might be central, they could play a part in making the decision to postpone the tour.
