The Indian Premier League (IPL), which comes under the purview of the BCCI, has signed a new partnership deal with AI giant Google Gemini for IPL 2026. The deal will commence from IPL 2026 onwards and will end after IPL 2028, a three-year period, and is worth Rs 270 crore. Gemini’s entry into the cricket market comes after ChatGPT, its rival, has partnered with the Women’s Premier League.
New IPL-Google Gemini partnership
As per Economic Times, the deal between IPL and Google Gemini will be worth Rs 270 crore. This is much bigger compared to ChatGPT’s Rs 17 crore deal with WPL. According to sources, an estimate ranging from Rs 300 to 400 crore is expected to be spent from AI brands in cricket advertising alone.
The Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill 2025, which was introduced in 2025, aims to ban real-money online gaming. It also prohibits companies from placing ads. This resulted in Dream11 and other fantasy gaming companies exiting as sponsors. A month or so later, Apollo Tyres were named the sponsors for Team India. As far as the deal with Gemini is concerned, it is the effort of the BCCI to minimize on the losses the took with the exit of the fantasy gaming players and also a bid to move towards what is creating waves in the future.
“BCCI and Dream 11 are discontinuing their relationship after the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill, 2025, was passed. BCCI will ensure not to indulge with any such organisations ahead in future,” BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia told news agency ANI.
