There is hardly any doubt that Mohammed Shami is an asset for Team India. Not only he’s a wicket-taking bowler, but he can use the long handle well, and score some quick runs. Mohammed Shami Sizzles with Bat in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy

In Monday’s pre-quarters match between Bengal and Chandigarh, Mohammed Shami had an unusual outing. Even before his turn for bowling, he had made the headlines for his performance with the bat. For a struggling Bengal Team, who were reduced to 91/6, Shami smashed a brilliant 32 from 17, to end the innings at 159/9. His innings included 3 fours and two sixes.

After batting first, Bengal largely struggled to score runs, with Karan Lal top-scoring with 33. Jagjit Singh was the pick of the bowlers for Chandigarh, returning with figures of 4/21. All-rounder Raj Bawa also impressed with 2/27. As for Shami, he is eyeing India comeback after a one-year hiatus.

Comeback in IND vs AUS Series?

On Sunday, after losing the second IND vs AUS Test in Adelaide, skipper Rohit Sharma had clarified that even though the door for Shami is open to come in, but the final call lies with the BCCI medical team. He also made it clear, indirectly though, that the pacer might not be available for the Brisbane Test, scheduled to start on December 14.

As far as Shami’s performances are concerned, he has picked up eight wickets in seven matches in the Syed Mushtaq Ali trophy. In the sole Ranji Trophy match he played this season, he ended up bagging seven wickets, and scored runs too.
