England veteran pacer Chris Woakes has been ruled out of any further participation in the Oval Test, after he sustained a shoulder injury, while fielding on the Day 1 of the match against India, as per a report in SkySports. While giving a chase, the 35-year-old landed awkwardly on his left shoulder.

Chris Woakes Injury Raises Concerns for England

Such was his condition, that his shoulder had to be first put into a sling, before being taken out of the park. Meanwhile, a statement from the ECB said Chris Woakes’ condition would be assessed during the course of the match, but isn’t expected to take any further part in the match.

“England seamer Chris Woakes will continue to be monitored throughout the remainder of the Rothesay Fifth Test at The Kia Oval, following a left shoulder injury sustained on day one of the match against India. At this stage, the injury has ruled him out of any further participation in the Test. A further assessment will be conducted at the conclusion of the series,” the statement read.

Out of Oval Test

It is important to note that the bowler was making a comeback into the side, after an injury layoff, and then went on to play four consecutive Tests, where he became the first bowler ever to bowl, 1000 deliveries in a series. In this IND vs ENG fifth Test, in 14 overs, he gave away 46 runs, and also picked up the wicket of KL Rahul.

This is totally new-look England bowling attack, with Brydon Carse, Jofra Archer, and Ben Stokes not playing here, due to injury issues. England have Gus Atkinson and Josh Tongue in their ranks for now, with Jacob Bethell, who can bowl some spin.
