‘I only believe in Jassi bhai.’ These words from Mohammed Siraj have been immortalised. Every time Team India is in a pickle, Jasprit Bumrah rocks up and delivers. Format, player, and situation don’t matter. If ‘Jassi bhai’ has the ball, expect him to perform a miracle.
Bumrah stands up for India
In the must-win India vs West Indies match, the winner of which will qualify for the T20 World Cup 2026 semifinal, Bumrah stood up when it mattered the most for Team India. With the informed Shimron Hetmyer thrashing the bowlers, especially Varun Chakaravarthy, Bumrah came on and sent the dangerous southpaw back into the pavilion.
But it wasn’t a shocker. Because Hetmyer is Bumrah’s bunny. The West Indian had faced the 21 deliveries from the unorthodox pacer in T20 cricket and gotten dismissed 5 times. It was clear that Hetty had issues facing Bumrah. With the West Indies at 99/1 in 11 overs, the game could’ve slipped away.

Hetmyer and Roston Chase were well set, 25(10) and 39(23), respectively. But Bumrah had other ideas. In the 12th over, he rocked up and sent both packing. Hetty was the bigger fish, considering how well he plays spinners, and Axar Patel and Varun were yet to bowl 3 overs combined.
By the time the 12th over ended, both were gone. The game was flipped on its head. And Bumrah was responsible for it. A length ball at the stumps to Hetmyer saw him edge one behind the wicket and despite a review from the batter, he couldn’t be saved. He changed tactics against Chase. To him, he delivered a off-cutter outside off. Chase tried to go for the shot but was deceived by the lack of pace and lobbed the ball towards Suryakumar Yadav at cover, who took a great catch diving to his right.
