Former Indian cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin has heaped praise on New Zealand cricket team for being an analytically driven side amid the ongoing IND vs NZ series. The Tamil Nadu spinner’s remarks came after the visitors were handed a 4-wicket defeat in the 1st ODI in Vadodara on Sunday. Ashwin claimed that he was even willing to pay to be a part of the New Zealand camp in order to observe and understand their execution skills.

Ashwin wants to join team New Zealand

In a video on his YouTube channel, Ashwin claimed that he was willing to pay money to be a part of New Zealand’s team meetings in order to understand how they go about the execution of their plans. The Tamil Nadu spinner lavished praise on the Kiwis for fighting till the end in the 1st ODI and credited their discipline, fielding and execution of plans for putting up a strong fight against India.

A lot of the top teams aren’t very analytically driven. New Zealand is a very analytically driven side. I hope to sit down with them and observe their planning; I am even willing to pay money for it if needed. The way they execute their plans, I would pay to sit in their team meetings to understand how they go about it,” Ashwin said.

It was a familiar script in the 301-run chase as Virat Kohli took charge. While he looked set for his 54th ODI ton, Kyle Jamieson silenced the crowd as he fell 7 runs short. But his 118-run stand with Shubman Gill and 77-run partnership with Shreyas Iyer set the stage. Gill perished for 56 and Iyer fell for 49. There was a small hiccup after Kohli fell for 93 but Harshit Rana’s 23-ball 29 and KL Rahul’s composed 29 of 21 helped India seal the game in Vadodara with 6 balls to spare. India will now travel to Rajkot for the 2nd ODI on Jan 14.
