Former Zimbabwe cricketer Andy Prycoft will be the match referee for the India vs Pakistan, Asia Cup 2025 Super 4 clash on Sunday. Following the handshake row that erupted in the IND vs PAK tie on September 14, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) made repeated demands to the ICC to not only remove Pycroft as the match referee but to also investigate his alleged violation of the Code of Conduct. However, the ICC has categorically rejected all of PCB’s demands and has now decided to retain the official as the match referee for the clash on Sunday.
Pycroft to officiate IND vs PAK Super 4 tie
As per the Press Trust of India, the ICC has decided that Pycroft will be the match referee for the IND vs PAK tie on Sunday. Pakistan had lodged a protest against the official for informing captains Salman Ali Agha and Suryakumar Yadav to not shake hands after the toss. Despite Pycroft apologising for the “miscommunication” and maintaining that he had just done so on the request of the organisers, Pakistan continued to demands his removal.
The issue had started when the Indian team refused to shake hands with the Pakistani team after their clash on September 14. Since then, a lot has been said. The PAK team threated to pull out from the UAE match, if referee Andy Pycroft was not removed. Later, Pycroft was made to issue and apology.
On Thursday, it had emerged that ICC CEO Sanjog Gupta had fired a mail to the PCB, over the Andy Pycroft meeting. There PAK team manager had recorded the meeting, and ICC had cited PMOA violations for the same. the PCB has disputed this claim. They went on to argue that the media manager is part of the squad and ICC protocols allow them to use cameras.
