Australia pacer Andrew Tye on Thursday, January 15 announced shocking retirement from the premier T20 league, the Big Bash League (BBL). Taking the field for the Melbourne Renegades in their league match against Perth Scorchers at the Docklands Stadium on Thursday, the 39-year-old soon after the bat flip confirmed BBL 2025-26 to be his last season.
It is to be noted at the Perth-born cricketer made his BBL debut in 2013 with the Sydney Thunder. However, the very next season he moved to Perth Scorchers, where he majorly played during his BBL stint. But ahead of the BBL 2025-26 season, he was signed by the Melbourne Renegades and will conclude his BBL tenure as the second highest wicket-taker.
While he became the first Perth Scorchers pacer to pick 100 wickets in the BBL history, his finest performance in the tournament came in 2022-23 season where he scalped 26 wickets, breaking his previous best of 25 wickets in 2021-22 edition with the Scorchers.
Andrew Tye signs 2-year deal with Yorkshire for Vitality Blast T20
The 39-year-old although ends his stint in BBL but will now be seen playing for the Yorkshire side in Vitality Blast T20. Recently, the right-arm medium fast bowler signed a two-year deal with Yorkshire, adding firepower to their bowling lineup. The Yorkshire County Cricket Club took to X to announce the signing with the caption reading, “One of the most dangerous T20 bowlers in the world is coming to Headingley”.
The 39-year-old also expressed confidence as he said, as quoted by Yorkshire, “It’s a real privilege to be signing for Yorkshire. There is a proud tradition of Australian cricketers at Yorkshire and I’m excited to add to this and get amongst it with the guys. I know I can add some real depth of experience to the side. The Blast is a great tournament to be involved in, and I know how important it is to a side like Yorkshire to be in the mix to win it.”
