Former Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh has heaped praise on men’s senior selection committee chairman Ajit Agarkar for picking the right team for the T20 World Cup 2024. India was the first team to unveil their squad for the marquee event which begins from February 7 onwards. Labelling each player in the Indian squad as a match-winner, Harbhajan pinned hopes on the team to win a second consecutive trophy.
Did Agarkar ace T20 World Cup selection?
Speaking to news agency ANI, Harbhajan said that while he felt bad for Shubman Gill, his exclusion from the squad was justified as the selectors had focused on team combination. The former Indian cricketer noted that an in-form Hardik Pandya was the key player for India, he backed captain Suryakumar Yadav to shine on the big stage.
“The team is really good. I had told that Ajit should be given 10/10 for the team. I felt a little bad for Shubman, but he will get more chances soon. All the players are match winners in their own right. Hope we can win back-to-back World Cups because we have that team,” Harbhajan told ANI.
The team led by Suryakumar Yadav will kick-start their T20 World Cup campaign on February 7 and will take on USA in their tournament opener. Ishan Kishan has been included as the back-up keeper while Samson is set to resume his role as the opener in Gill’s absence.
