After a chastening defeat in Perth, India are looking to mend their batting woes ahead of the IND vs AUS 2nd ODI in Adelaide. The return of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma did not go as per plan for new captain Shubman Gill as India collapsed in the rain interrupted clash. With their careers on the line, the veteran duo hit the nets with gusto, batting for an hour to acclimatize to the conditions.
Practice makes perfect? Rohit, Virat eye Perth amends
Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli’s return to India colours hit a snag on Sunday. Opening the batting, Rohit dismissed for 8 with a sharp rising delivery from Josh Hazlewood. Kohli’s stint ended with a stunner from Cooper Connolly at point for a duck. The Men in Blue as a batting unit largely struggled on a spicy Perth wicket, and conceded Shubman Gill’s debut match as captain without a fight.
With their careers hinging on good performances, both Virat and Rohit spent an extended time in the nets on Tuesday. As per Rohit Juglan, Virat Kohli batted for in the outdoor nets trying to work his way into form. Rohit also batted for an hour, trying to recapture his best.
Long time in the nets has been the norm for India’s veteran duo. They had opted for a similar hit out in the build up the 1st ODI. However, following their lack of runs, both Virat and Rohit will aim to set the record straight in Adelaide. A loss on Sunday would mean a series defeat for the Men in Blue.
The future of RoKo hinges greatly on this IND vs AUS series. While chief selector Ajit Agarkar had said they won’t be put to trial after every match, there is a imminent feeling that India are trying to move and build towards 2027 World Cup. Both Virat and Rohit aim to play that tournament, but their form and fitness will dictate where that road leads to.
