0.003% chance! India find new low, becomes first ever team to lose 15 tosses in a row

India went throughout the entire ODI Men's Champions Tropy without winning a single toss.

India’s bizarre streak of losing tosses has now entered the record books for all the wrong reasons. After skipper Shubman Gill called wrong once again at The Oval ahead of the fifth Test against England, India became the first team in international cricket to lose 15 consecutive tosses.

What started as a quirky statistic has now turned into a historic low. The probability of losing 15 coin tosses in a row is just 0.003%, making it one of cricket’s strangest streaks. An unwanted one to say the least.

Bad luck at toss for Gill

Captain Shubman Gill, who took over leadership duties before this Test series, has impressed with the bat but continues to be plagued by poor luck at the toss. The last time the Indian men’s team won a toss was in the third T20I in Rajkot in January this year. Interestingly, that was the only match that India managed to lose as well.

India last won a toss in January 2025 during a T20I against England in Rajkot, a game they ironically went on to lose. Since then, across T20Is, ODIs and Tests, Gill and his teammates have repeatedly come second-best in the pre-match ritual.

Despite this, India have remained competitive in the ongoing series, trailing 2-1 going into The Oval Test. However, Gill’s luck with the coin continues to be a talking point.

  • 12 – West Indies 🏝️ (1999)
  • 11 – England 🏴 (2022-23)
