India’s ace shuttler Lakshya Sen has scripted a major upset, as he got the better of the World No. 2 Indonesia Jonatan Christie in straight games, in the second round of the All England Open on Thursday. The Indian World No. 15 won the match with relative ease 21-13, 21-10 in a rather one-sided contest.
Lakshya Sen Through to Pre-quarters
In seventh meeting between the two — this was Lakshya Sen’s third victory, as he enters the round of 16 now. In the next round, he is slated to face Chinese Li Shi Feng. Meanwhile, the Indian looked in his element, and did not allow his opponent to settle in the match.

As far as the match is concerned, it started with a 11-6 lead for Lakshya in the first game. From there on there was no looking back as in no time he took it to 21-13. Come the second game, Christie looked sorted at the start only, to be level at 6-6. But there was a complete shift in the gears from Lakshya there, as he 18-8 at one point, and then closed the match at 21-10.
Earlier, India’s campaign in the women’s singles had ended as Malvika Bansod lost her second round match to Akane Yamaguchi of Japan, while PV Sindhu had lost her first round match to Ga Eun Kim of South Korea in three games. Now, all eyes will be on the men’s doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, who are due to face Chinese pair of Hao Nan Xie, and Wei Han Zeng.
