The Indian suffered a 21-23, 21-17, 19-21 defeat against China’s Lu Guangzhu. With the loss, he has now gone out of contention for a spot in the semifinals. With the victory against Prannoy, Lu Guangzu managed to stay alive in the competition. The World No.17 lost his first group match in the tournament against Viktor Axelsen. Both the players started off the match with the score at 3-3. Lu Gungzu then took the lead as he went up 6-3. Prannoy ensured he didn’t let the Chinsese run away with a big lead as he gave a good fight and tried hard to reduce the deficit.

However, Guangzu managed to enter the interval with a slender 11-9 lead. After the interval, Prannoy tried to make a comeback as he took a 15-14 lead.  From then on, it was an intense neck-to-neck battle between both the players. They were effective with their close net shots. Soon Prannoy managed to save two game points. But Guangzu closed out the game 23-21 with a shot that Prannoy misjudged at the backline.

In the second game, the Chinese managed to take a 6-3 lead at the start. But Prannoy made a good comeback. He took four points on the trot and took an 8-7 lead with a delightful cross-court smash. However Guangzu managed to enter the interval with a 11-10 lead. Under immense pressure, Prannoy made a good comeback as he displayed his attacking game to challenge his opponent. It soon gave him a lead and he took the contest into the decider by sealing the second game 21-17.

In the decider, Prannoy started well witha  6-3 lead. But Guangzu bounced back by getting four successive point and snatched the lead. He went on to enter the interval with a three-point cushion. The change of ends after the break, helped Prannoy claw back into the contest as he levelled the scores 18-18. But the Indian failed to hold the nerves. He gifted away the next three points to the Chinese with one error after the other and lost the encounter.
