Asian Games: Indian fans fall prey to Tejaswin Shankar’s cryptic tweet over ‘biased Chinese’

The likes of Neeraj Chopra, Jyothi Yarraji and Kishore Jena had suffered during Asian Games during biased Chinese officiating.

It was just a few days back that the high-jumper turned decathlete, Tejaswin Shankar had won a silver medal at the Asian Games with an overall score of 7666 points. China’s Sun Qihao took home the gold medal with 7816 points. It is noteworthy that the Indian was leading by over 200 points before the last day’s competition began, but in the end, could not do enough to get the top prize.

Tejaswin Shankar, despite winning the long jump, high jump, and the 400 event, could not pip his Chinese rival. After his effort, the Indian athlete was thronged with messages about him winning the silver despite Chinese athlete Sun ending last in the 100m and the 1500m events. It was then that Tejaswin brought out his humor. In a sarcastic tweet, he wrote, “Absolutely pathetic officiating at Asian games where Chinese decathlete Sun was dead last in the 1500m but still got the gold.”

In short, he joined the bandwagon of Indian athletes who had shown their displeasure over the biased officiating at the Asian Games. Jyothi Yarraji, Neeraj Chopra, and Kishore Jena were the sufferers of that during the competition. The fans too fell for Tejaswin Shankar’s witty tweet and supported him. While some took immediate notice, and realised it was a tongue-in-cheek comment.
