Asian Games: India women win silver in Women’s 50m Rifle 3 positions team event

India's Sift Kaur Samra, Ashi Chouksey and Manini Koushik sealed the second spot on the podium with a total of 1764 points

Indian shooters Sift Kaur Samra, Ashi Chouksey and Manini Koushik added one more medal to India’s tally at the Asian Games 2023. The trio clinched the silver medal in the 50m rifle 3 position event on Wednesday, 27th September. They shot a total of 1764 points in the qualification to finish second on the podium.

In the qualification, Sift Kaur Samra scored 594 (28x) and finished second aon the table. Ashi Chouksey secured the sixth place by scoring 590 (27x). Meanwhile Manini Kaushik ended up in the 18th place with an total of 580 (28x). The three women’s overall score helped them finish second in the team event.

Hosts China won the gold with an aggregate score of 1773. While South Korea bagged the bronze with a total score of 1756.

Samra and Chauksey qualified for the finals by finishing second and sixth respectively while Kaushik bowed out. Sift Kaur’s total of 594 is also a joint Asian record for qualifying. China’s Siyu Xia also scored 594 (41x) in the qualifying.

In the final, Sift Kaur Samra brought India’s fifth gold at the ongoing Asian Games. She shot a score of 469.6 in the final. With that, she also shattered the previous world record held by Great Britain’s Seonaid McIntosh (467), which the latter had achieved in Baku earlier this year.

The joy of the gold medal was doubled as Ashi Chouksey too finished with a bronze medal in the event, scoring 451.9 points in the final.
