Asian Games: Aishwary Pratap bags silver, Swapnil Kusale finishes fourth in 50m Rifle

This is Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar's fourth medal in this edition of the Asian Games.

In what has been a dominating day for India in shooting, Aishwary Pratap Singh added one more medal to the nation’s tally at the Asian Games. The 23-year old won the silver medal in the Men’s 50m Rifle 3 positions individual events. However it was heartbreak for his compatriot Swapnil Kusale, who fell just short of the podium by finishing fourth in the final.

This is India’s 18th medal in shooting at Hangzhou Games. Aishwary Pratap Singh has also now won a total of four medals in this edition. Earlier in the day he won the gold in the team event in the 50m Rifle 3 positions along with Swapnil Kusale and Akhil Sheoran. With a score of 1769 points, the trio ended up in the first place.

Aishwary also has a bronze in 25m rifle and a gold in the team event of the same. On Friday in the final, he started off on a poor note in the kneeling position. He recorded 48.8 in series 1. However he made a comeback in the subsequent series.

He was trailing his teammate Swapnil Kusale until the elimination rounds. Kusale, who was on track for gold made an error in his first single-standing elimination shot that made him slip to fourth position.

Tomar meanwhile was consistent in the standing position shooting 10.6, 10.4, 10-5 and 10.3 to seal the second spot. China’s Linshu Du bagged the gold medal with a Games record score of 460.6.
