US Open 2022: Carlos Alcaraz in FINAL, battles past Frances Tiafoe in 5 SET slugfest: Watch Alcaraz beat Tiafoe HIGHLIGHTS

Alcaraz beat Tiafoe HIGHLIGHTS: Tiafoe earlier made a brilliant comeback to win 4th set vs Carlos Alcaraz in TIE-BREAK and took the match to 5th and deciding set.

Alcaraz won the 3rd set 6-1 as Tifaoe could only win 9 points in the entire set against the 19 year old.

The third seed lost the first set against the American via a tie-breaker but came back strongly to win the second by 6-3.

In the final, Alcaraz plays Norway’s Casper Ruud. Each man will be seeking his first major championship.

Alcaraz was the youngest semifinalist at a major since his compatriot Nadal in 2005 and the youngest US Open semifinalist since Sampras in 1990. Should Alcaraz win the title in Flushing Meadows, he will become the youngest No. 1 in history, displacing 20-year-old Lleyton Hewitt of Australia.

Tiafoe, 24, was bidding to become the first American Grand Slam finalist since Andy Roddick at Wimbledon in 2009 (and the first American US Open finalist since Roddick in 2006).

No American man has won the US Open since Roddick in 2003. Tiafoe’s defeat of Nadal in the Round of 16 was the American’s third win over a Top 5 player. But he fell to 3-14 vs. the Top 5 with his loss to Alcaraz.

US Open

Casper Ruud in FINALS: Since his father, former world No. 39 Christian Ruud, first put a racquet in his hand, the Norwegian has been soaring as an athlete and as a competitor.

He would go on to become the world’s top-ranked junior; eclipse Christian’s career-high ranking; win an ATP title, the first from his homeland to do so; and crack the Top 10, then the Top 5, all by the time he was 23.

Now the world No. 7 Ruud has an opportunity to make the biggest jump to No. 1 in the history of the men’s rankings. On Friday afternoon in Flushing Meadows, the Oslo-born baseliner advanced to his second major final of 2022, defeating No. 27 seed Karen Khachanov 7-6(5), 6-2, 5-7, 6-2, at the 2022 US Open.

Regardless of his result in FINAL, Ruud will achieve new career-high ranking on Monday (No. 3, No. 2, or No. 1).
