Ishan Kishan is an emerging Indian cricketer known for his dynamic batting and wicketkeeping skills. Born on July 18, 1998, in Patna, Bihar, Kishan rose through the ranks of Indian domestic cricket before making his mark on the international stage. He made his debut for Jharkhand in domestic cricket at a young age and quickly caught the eye of selectors with his aggressive batting style and ability to score runs consistently.

Kishan’s breakthrough came in the 2016 Under-19 World Cup, where he captained the Indian team and showcased his talent with both the bat and the gloves. Following his impressive performances in the tournament, he was signed by the Gujarat Lions franchise in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and made an immediate impact, scoring runs at a brisk pace and earning a reputation as a hard-hitting batsman.

In 2018, Kishan was picked up by the Mumbai Indians in the IPL auction and became an integral part of their squad. Domestic career 

On November 6, 2016, Kishan achieved a remarkable feat by scoring 273 runs against Delhi in the 2016–17 Ranji Trophy, setting a new record for the highest individual score by a player for Jharkhand in the competition. He continued to shine in subsequent seasons, emerging as the leading run-scorer for Jharkhand in the 2017–18 Ranji Trophy, accumulating 484 runs in six matches. Additionally, in the 2018–19 Vijay Hazare Trophy, Kishan topped the batting charts for Jharkhand, amassing 405 runs in nine matches. His consistent performances earned him recognition at the national level, with appearances in tournaments such as the Deodhar Trophy and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, where he showcased his batting prowess with impressive centuries. Kishan’s talent was further acknowledged with selections in India Red’s squad for the 2019–20 Duleep Trophy and India A squad for the same competition in October 2019. In February 2021, he made headlines by scoring 173 runs against Madhya Pradesh on the opening day of the 2020–21 Vijay Hazare Trophy, contributing to a record team score of 422.

IPL Career 

Gujarat Lions purchased Kishan in the 2016 Indian Premier League auction. The Mumbai Indians purchased him in the 2018 auction. With 516 runs from 14 games in 2020, he was Mumbai’s top run scorer and took home the trophy for most sixes hit in the year. 

Prior to the 2022 Indian Premier League, Kishan was acquired by Mumbai once more for ₹15.25 crore, which translates to ₹16 crore or US$2.0 million in 2023. This made him the second most expensive player from India at the auction, behind Yuvraj Singh.

International career 

Ishan Kishan’s international career has been marked by significant achievements and impactful performances. Making his debut for India in March 2021 during a T20I series against England, Kishan immediately left a mark by scoring a brisk 56 runs from just 32 balls, earning him the player of the match award. He continued to impress with consistent performances, earning selection for both ODI and T20I squads. Notably, during India’s tour of Bangladesh in December 2022, Kishan made history by becoming the youngest and fastest player to score a double century in ODI cricket, amassing a remarkable 210 runs from 131 balls. Test Career 

In the Test format, Ishan Kishan has participated in two matches, featuring in three innings, and remained not out once. With a commendable batting average of 78.00, Kishan has faced 91 deliveries, boasting a strikingly high strike rate of 85.71. In Patna, Ishan Kishan was born into a middle-class family. On July 18, 1998, he was born in the Bihar district of Nawada. He will turn 24 years old in 2022. His mother, Suchitra Singh, is a housewife, while his father, Pranav Kumar Pandey, is a builder by trade with his own construction company.
