PKL 2023: Gujarat Giants seal thrilling victory over U Mumba

Gujarat Giants register third successive win in the Pro Kabaddi League 2023. They pull off a nail-biting 39-37 win against U Mumba.

Sonu Jaglan’s heroics yet again help Gujarat Giants seal a thrilling victory in the Pro Kabaddi League 2023. In a tense contest against U Mumba, Sonu Jaglan’s three point raid in the dying moments proved to be the difference as the Giants registered a 39-37 victory in the contest on 5th December, Tuesday at TransStadia, Ahmedabad.

With this, Gujarat Giants remain unbeaten as they have registered three successive victories in PKL 2023. In all their three wins, the Giants pulled off come-from-behind victories after trailing in the first-half.

Gujarat Giants vs U Mumba

The teams traded the lead in the opening few minutes. When the scores were level 5-5, Guman Singh’s two-point raid helped U Mumba take a 7-5 lead in the 5th minute.

Sonu Jaglan, who has been the star for Gujarat Giants was then introduced in the 7th minute. He failed to get going initially. However Gujarat Giants took the lead with a two point raid from Rakesh HS that helped the team take a slender lead 10-9 lead.

Mahender Singh however soon helped U Mumba get back the lead with a super tackle. Their lead swelled to six points soon after as Sonu was tackled in a do-or-die raid and Guman escaped with yet another raid point.

Fazel Atrachali soon went into raid and got the better of his rival captain Surinder Singh. He then followed it up with a Super Tackle. The first half came to an end with Giants trailing 16-18.

In the second-half, Sonu’s first raid point helped the Giants draw level. There was no stopping him from there on as Sonu picked up two huge points – Rinku Singh and Mahender – to reduce U Mumba to just one man on the mat.

U Mumba soon were all out as the Giants took a 23-19 lead. They soon raced on to a 30-22 lead. U Mumba fought back with good raids from Guman Singh and Amirmohamed Zafardanesh as they reduced the deficit to 30-34.

Zafardanesh soon inflicted an All Out and bring his side back on level terms. But it was Sonu who had the last laugh as he produced a mindblowing three-point Super Raid in the final minute of the game. With it, he also brought up his third Super 10 on the trot as the Giants won the contest.
