Bengal Warriors will be led by star raider Maninder Singh in the upcoming edition of the Pro Kabaddi League. The 33-year old has been the captain of the side since 2019. He was bought back at the auction ahead of PKL 2023 and has been officially reinstated at the role on Wednesday, 22nd November.

Maninder Singh is the second best raider in the history of the league. He has accumulated over 1244 raid points in his career. Only Pardeep Narwal has scored more raid points than him.

However surprisingly, the team released him ahead of the PKL 2023 auction. The team’s new owner Capri Sports reacquired him at the auction for 2.12 crores by using the FBM card.

‘Honoured to be back’

“I couldn’t have been happier that Bengal Warriors have got me back in the set-up. I am honoured to be back with this team and being named as the captain as well. This is a big responsibility, one which I intend to fulfill with all my might,” said Maninder Singh in a press release.

“This is a special season and I cannot wait to be back on the mat and in front our fans. This year we have new owners and management in Capri Sports, and they have been very supportive from the start,” he added.

Maninder is one of the best raiders PKL has seen, and he is a delight to work with. He has been a key player for Bengal Warriors in the past, and he will surely play a critical role this year as well, both as a captain and as a raider as we aspire to lift the trophy for the 2nd time,” said coach K. Baskaran.

Maninder Singh has been an integral part of the Bengal Warriors since 2017. He has single-handedly performed in the raids for the side over the years. He was first named as the captain of the side in 2019. In his debut season as captain, he led impressively as the team went on to win the title. This year he will hope to emulate a similar show.

The Bengal Warriors will open their campaign in PKL 2023 against the Bengaluru Bulls on 4th December in Ahmedabad at The Arena by TransStadia.
