However, to everyone’s surprise, Maxwell was dismissed in the weirdest way possible, but the dismissal was well within the laws and regulations of the game.

It was a bit of hesitation from Maxwell during the run which cost him the wicket. A single had been completed, but with the Aussie pair moving for a second run, Axar’s direct throw hits the stumps with Maxwell way short of the stumps. However, the replay shows that Dinesh Karthik has previously dislodged the stumps before the ball could hit the stumps.
This warrants a not-out. However, the drama continues as in slow motion replay it is revealed that only one of the bails was dislodged owing to Karthik. The second bail was dislodged when Axar’s direct throw hit the stumps. Well within the laws of the game, Dinesh Karthik’s folly was saved and Maxwell with a bitter face had to return to the pavilion.
