The Hockey India League (HIL) is set to make a comeback after a seven-year gap after Hockey India (HI) officially launched the league for the 2024-25 season on Friday in New Delhi. The HIL 2024-25 will feature 8 men’s teams and 6 women’s teams, marking the first time a standalone women’s league will run concurrently with the men’s competition.
The introduction of an exclusive women’s league within the HIL framework provides a powerful platform for female athletes to demonstrate their prowess, paving the way for a more inclusive and competitive future for Indian hockey.
Apart from officially launching the brand new HIL, Hockey India also revealed the men’s and women’s franchises that will compete in the coming edition of the league.

HIL 2024-25 schedule and format
The men’s league will play out across two stages – Phase 1 shall begin on the 28th of December and end on the 18th of January. In this period, every team will play each other once.
Thereafter, Phase 2 shall commence on the 19th of January. The top four teams shall progress to the semifinals which will play out on the 31st of January 2025. The final will be held on the 1st of February 2025.
League Format
Pool Stage (January 12 – January 24): All four teams will play each other twice in a round-robin format. The final is scheduled for January 26, 2025 where the top two teams from the pool stage will clash for the title.

The HIL 2024-25 matches will be played across two venues – Marang Gomke Jaipal Singh Astroturf Hockey Stadium in Ranchi, Jharkhand and Birsa Munda Hockey Stadium in Rourkela, Odisha.
