Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra has claimed that Yashasvi Jaiswal is an all-format player and cannot be restricted to only Tests. The fiery opener was last seen in action during the IND vs ENG Test series earlier this year following which he played a game for West Zone in Duleep Trophy. Chopra reckons that although Jaiswal has the ability to play both red and white-ball cricket, he currently fits in the scheme of things only in Tests.
Jaiswal an all-format player?
In a video on his YouTube channel, Chopra dubbed it as a travesty to see Jaiswal playing only in Tests while he had the skill to play all three formats. He said that while the southpaw will surely play in the Test series against West Indies at home, he will only travel with the Indian team to Australia for the ODI series but is unlikely to be a part of the playing XI.
“It’s a very interesting question because Yashasvi is a good player. When you see Yashasvi, it seems like he is a three-format player. However, currently, he is playing only one format, and it seems like a travesty. It seems almost an injustice, that he should play all three formats,” Chopra said.
Chopra further reckoned that Jaiswal has to wait for longer to get into the T20I team. He hoped that the opener can make it to the T20 World Cup squad next year, given that there are 15 T20Is leadding up to the marquee tournament in February 2026.
“He (Jaiswal) is too good a player to miss out. I love him to bits. He is a phenomenal player, and I hope he makes it. I feel Shreyas Iyer and Yashasvi Jaiswal are two players who will eventually be part of our World Cup squad. This voice is coming from my heart. I don’t have any inside info,” Chopra observed.
