'Won't see Karun Nair playing further, selectors have decided to look past him'

Ex-India star Aakash Chopra has made a grim prediction about Karun Nair's future after he was left out of the India A squad

Former Indian cricketer Aakasho Chopra has predicted that it was the end of the road for Karun Nair after he was snubbed from India A’s squad for Australia A multi-day games. The Karnataka batter, who returned to the Test team after 7 long years, failed to perform in the IND vs ENG Test series. Chopra claimed that the selectors had probably decided to look past Nair for the future and try someone else instead.

No more Karun Nair in Indian Test team?

In a video on his YouTube channel, Chopra pointed out that Karun had been given a second chance, just like had asked for, but had performed sub-par. The ex-India opener claimed that Nair wasn’t unfit or unavailable and yet wasn’t picked in the India A squad. The Karnataka batter, who was supposed to the Mysore Warriors captain in Maharaja Trophy 2025, was prohibited from taking part in the tournament earlier in August as he failed to clear his fitness assessment.

Unfortunately, it looks like you won’t see Karun Nair playing further. He is not unavailable. He is fit and then not picked; it seems that the selectors have decided to look past Karun Nair,” Chopra opined.

Karun’s comeback to the Indian Test team in England did not as he expected as he could manage only one fifty on the entire tour, scoring 255 runs at an average of 25. Chopra reckons that Shreyas Iyer, who has been made captain of the India A team, is probably given a chance as the number 3 or 6 spot in the Indian side is not yet finalized.

Why has Shreyas been elevated as the captain? It is because the No.3 and No.6 slots in Tests are still open. Sai Sudharsan and Easwaran are also in the squad, but Nair is not there. It is a big step because Karun asked for a second chance, and he was given that. He performed okay-okay; he was shuffled up and down the batting order. I thought the upcoming West Indies series would see Nair being included,” he added.
