Fans were left outraged after the Quarterfinal 1 and Quarterfinal 2 of Duleep Trophy were neither telecast live nor were live streamed. The red-ball tournament, which marked the start of India’s 2025/26 domestic season, commenced from August 28 onwards, with both matches being held at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru. Ahead of the resumption of play on Day 2, a report has shed light on why there is no live coverage of the Duleep Trophy despite the hype.
Reason behind no live streaming for Duleep Trophy revealed
As per Times of India, a source claimed that the BCCI’s contract with the broadcaster only allowed for a fixed number of India Cricket telecast days. The source informed that no match, apart from the Duleep Trophy final, will be telecast or live streamed. However, the source stated that there is a scope for improvement in order to provide fans a better experience. The Duleep Trophy final will take place between September 11-15.
“The BCCI has a contract with its official broadcaster for a fixed number of India Cricket telecast days. These have to be managed carefully. Only the Duleep Trophy final will be telecast live on television and streamed online. But this needs to improve from fans’ perspective,” a source told the publication.
Day 1 of the Duleep Trophy 2025 saw East Zone take on North Zone and North East Zone lock horns with Central Zone. Several stars like Mohammed Shami, Rajat Patidar, Mukesh Kumar among others were seen in action. Earlier, reports had claimed that the matches would be live streamed on JioHotstar, like how it was done in the previous edition of the tournament. However, that was not to be as the BCCI posted on its social media handle that the live scores would be available only on its website and the official mobile application.
