Catch all the key details from yesterday’s IPL 2026 clash between Delhi Capitals (DC) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).

For the third straight evening, 200 never came into the picture. But unlike the previous two games, this one had a bit of a contest. Not for long, though. Delhi Capitals recovered from early damage to beat Lucknow Super Giants by six wickets, chasing down 142 with 17 balls to spare and opening their account in IPL 2026. At one stage, this didn’t look like DC’s game. But Sameer Rizvi had other ideas.

Sameer Rizvi flips the game after early collapse

Chasing 142, DC were in early trouble. Four down inside the powerplay, 33/4 on the board, and LSG’s seamers had the ball talking. Mohammed Shami, Mohsin Khan and Prince Yadav found movement and made life uncomfortable. KL Rahul fell first ball. Nitish Rana didn’t last. Axar Patel followed. It was messy.

And then came Rizvi. He started scratchy. 5 off 13 balls. Couldn’t get going. But one shot changed it. A ramp off Anrich Nortje for six. From there, he settled. Picked his match-ups. Targeted spin. And once LSG went there, the game slipped.

The 10th over from Shahbaz Ahmed went for 16. That was the shift. From there, Rizvi and Tristan Stubbs just batted. In fact, DC head coach Hemang Badani made a late decision to send Stubbs at six when Axar Patel was dismissed on a duck. David Miller was padded up to bat next but Badani rushed from the dressing room and told Miller to wait. The move did wonders as Stubbs and Rizvi’s ken 119-run stand for the fifth wicket took DC home in 17.1 overs.

Rizvi finished unbeaten on 70 off 47, getting the Player of the Match award at his home ground. Stubbs stayed with him on 39* off 32.

DC bowlers set it up, LSG fall short again

Before Rizvi took over, DC’s bowlers had already done the hard work.

LSG never really got going. Rishabh Pant’s ploy to bat as an opener failed. Mitchell Marsh and Aiden Markram had a brief stand, but it never felt threatening. The innings kept stalling. Wickets kept falling.

Lungi Ngidi was the standout. His slower balls were on point, and he finished with 3/27. Kuldeep Yadav controlled the middle overs, while T Natarajan cleaned up at the end with 3/29.

Abdul Samad’s 36 off 25 was the only real push. Jamie Overton did something similar for CSK the night before. Damage control, nothing more. LSG were bowled out for 141 in 18.4 overs, leaving runs on the table. To be fair, they did fight back with the ball. The swing in the powerplay gave them a real chance. At 26/4, DC were there for the taking. But once Rizvi got through that phase, LSG ran out of ideas.
