Notably, Vaibhav Suryavanshi's century off 35 balls remains fastest by an Indian, following Chris Gayle’s 30-ball century in 2015.

In match number 9 of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, the former champions Gujarat Titans (GT) will host the inaugural title winners, Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on April 4. The two teams are although coming of contrasting results in their respective season openers, GT will be looking to get their first win whereas the Royal will look to continue their winning run in IPL 2026.

But as they are set to lock horns for the first time this season, one of the most talked topics is what happened the last time Vaibhav Suryavanshi took the field against GT? However, it remains an interesting one seeing the teenage prodigy shine since his IPL debut on the world stage. The 15-year-old, who hails from Bihar, appeared in just his third IPL innings and shattered several milestones, including the second-quickest century in the tournament.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s 38-ball 101 vs GT helps him etch into history books

Opening the innings alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal in RR’s run-chase of 210 against GT, the opening pair stitched a 166-run partnership, which remains RR’s highest for any wicket in IPL. They broke the record previously etched of 155-run stand between Devdutt Padikkal and Jos Buttler.

Coming back to Suryavanshi’s 101 off 38 balls, the 15-year-old reached his maiden IPL ton off 35 deliveries. It remains the fastest by an Indian, following Chris Gayle’s 30-ball century in 2015 and surpassing Yusuf Pathan’s 37-ball hundred in 2010. During his knock, he hit 7 fours and 11 sixes – joint-most for an Indian in an IPL innings. Interestingly, the left-handed batter also broke the record of youngest to get to 50 in IPL, aged 14 years and 32 days. The record was previously held by Riyan Parag, who got to the fastest 50 in IPL 2019 against Delhi Daredevils, aged 17 years and 175 days.

With the two teams once again set for a faceoff on April 4, but this time at the Narendra Modi Stadium, can Vaibhav Suryavanshi repeat his 101-run knock?
