Asia Cup; Afghanistan were rocked by regular wickets, as Sri Lankan fielders displayed brilliance in catching.

Afghanistan have been going through a rough patch of form at the Asia Cup 2025. The team is on the verge of missing out on a spot in the Super 4s, and are batting poorly, which has come out as a big issue for them. In their final league match vs Sri Lanka on Thursday in Abu Dhabi, what made matters worse was, the latter’s exceptional catching.

Brilliant Catches by Chameera & Perera

First, it was the turn of Darwaish Rasooli to be caught out on the boundary by Kusal Perera, and then Ibramhim Zadran was caught out by Dushmantha Chameera on the bowling of Wellalage. Let us break down these catches further. Rasooli seemed to have hit the ball cleanly for a six, but Perera used his presence of mind, to go over the line, and the coming back inside the rope to reclaim the catch.

Afghanistan Score 168/9

On the other hand, Chameera turned, fell on the ground close to the rope, and yet managed to hold on to the ball well. This after, Zadran managed to mistime one. But then, as far as the overall Afghanistan innings is concerned, their innings was brought back on track by all-rounder Mohammad Nabi.

He went on to score 59 from only 22 deliveries, where he sit 6 sixes overall, and five consecutive on the bowling of Wellalage. He forged a partnership of 55 runs in just three overs with Noor Ahmad. That meant they ended with a score of 169/8 in their 20 overs.
