Virat Kohli might play Ranji Trophy match in Rajkot, could face teammate Ravindra Jadeja

Virat Kohli hasn't featured for Delhi in the Ranji Trophy since the 2012-13 season while Ravindra Jadeja's last domestic came in 2023.

Normally, you’d see Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja on different teams only in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Since neither plays much in domestic cricket due to their hectic international schedule, we only see them going toe-to-toe when the Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bengaluru match happens in the IPL. Well, we might have a rare opportunity on our hands to see the two Indian superstars donning the whites and going against each other.

Kohli and Jadeja might both feature for their respective state teams in the Delhi vs. Saurashtra match in the Ranji Trophy 2024-25. The second leg of the red-ball domestic tournament starts on January 23, and both teams are to face each other at the Niranjan Shah Stadium Ground C in Rajkot.

Virat Kohli expected to travel to Rajkot

According to Cricbuzz, Kohli hasn’t reached out to the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) regarding his availability, but there is a chance that he will join the team in Rajkot and train with them. However, it isn’t confirmed that he’ll play against Saurashtra even if he joins Delhi for the Ranji Trophy match.

“We will announce the squad tomorrow (January 17), and as of now we have not heard from Virat,” Ashok Sharma, the DDCA secretary, told Cricbuzz.

SCA uncertain about Ravindra Jadeja’s participation

Something similar goes for Ravindra Jadeja. The all-rounder had chosen to stay back with his family in Australia after a long and gruelling two-month long tour. He’s returned to India since but hasn’t informed the Saurashtra Cricket Association (SCA) about his availability. “There are chances (of him playing), but at this stage, we have not heard from him yet,” an SCA official told Cricbuzz.

Big-billed Delhi vs Saurashtra game

If both Kohli and Jadeja are available, the Delhi vs. Saurashtra match could be one of the most anticipated domestic games in years. The batting star from Delhi hasn’t featured in domestic cricket for over a decade, and people from all over the globe might tune in to see how he performs in the Ranji Trophy amid his slump.

Of course, Rishabh Pant, another India cricket team cricketer, has been confirmed to feature in the game as Delhi’s captain, while domestic greats like Jaydev Unadkat and Cheteshwar Pujara will be there as well.
