There is simply no stopping Vaibhav Suryavanshi! The youngster, who made an instant impact in his debut season last year, continues to live up to his reputation. It took him just 15 deliveries to reach his half-century in RR’s opening game against Chennai Super Kings, the third fastest in IPL history. CSK, who were put into bat first in Guwahati, managed to score just 127 runs before they were bundled out. However, Suryavanshi was in a hurry to wrap up things real quick and he did just that.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi continues to rise
Suryavanshi took just 15 deliveies to breach the fifty-run mark in RR’s IPL 2026 opening game against CSK on March 30. He struck four 4s and 5 sixes at an unbelivable strike rate of 305.88 to tear apart the CSK bowling line-up. The 15-year-old’s fifty on Monday marked the third fastest in the IPL, and the second fastest fifty for RR in IPL after Yashasvi Jaiswal’s 13-ball half-century against KKR in 2023.
| Rank | Player | Balls | Opponent | Venue | Year |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Yashasvi Jaiswal | 13 | KKR | Kolkata | 2023 |
| 2 | Vaibhav Suryavanshi | 15 | CSK | Guwahati | 2026* |
| 3 | Vaibhav Suryavanshi | 17 | GT | Jaipur | 2025 |
| 4 | Jos Buttler | 18 | DD | Delhi | 2018 |
Vaibahv, who has been in phenomenal form over the last year and even made a hundred in the U19 World Cup 2026 final, sizzled yet again. He was dropped in the very first delivery that he faced, as Kartik Sharma put down what was a difficult catch. And that’s where Suryavanshi captialized and made the CSK bowlers pay.
At the end of the powerplay, RR managed to reach 74/0, with Suryavanshi contributing majority of the runs and playing with a fearsome strike rate while Yashasvi Jaiswal could do very little but watch on from the other end despite his efforts.
Suryavanshi, during his short but impactful stay at the crease, stitched together a 75-run opening stand with Jaiswal, allowing RR to get off to a flying start in what is a low-scoring run-chase.
Suryavanshi’s onslaught was as such that Jaiswal has been put to shame. Usually, the Mumbai batter is a gun player who goes all guns blazing. But even he was forced to take the backseat when Vaibhav tore apart the CSK bowling line-up. Suryavanshi’s whirlwind fifty was the second fastest against CSK so far in the history of IPL.
- 14 balls: R Shepherd (2025)
15 balls: V Suryavanshi (2026)
17 balls: Kieron Pollard (2021)
Eventually, RR chased down the 128-run target with 8 wickets to spare, and in just 12.1 overs, with Jaiswal (38 off 36) and Riyan Parag (14 off 11) staying unbeaten.
