How often does it happen that a T20I match goes into the super over? The format is played since 2006, and till now, only 44 matches have ended in a tie, thus going into a super over, with the most recent instance being the IND vs SL Super 4 match in Asia Cup, on Friday. After India scored 202/5 in their 20 overs, Sri Lankans too ended up with the same score.
India’s 100% record in super overs
Interestingly, Team India has a perfect record after the match gets tied. They have never lost a match in Super over. The story starts from the 2007 T20 World Cup, where India beat Pakistan in a bowl out. If we leave that aside too, India has a 100% win record in tied matches. Starting from 2020, India has been part of four super overs and won them all. The last instance too came against Sri Lanka, back in 2024, where both teams scored 137 each.

India 2 Sri Lanka 0 in super over
As far as the Asia Cup encounter is concerned, Sri Lanka batted first in the super over, with Arshdeep Singh coming in to bowl the high-pressure over. But after having an off day, where he leaked over 40 runs, he came with a near perfect over, reducing the opponents to only 2/2. Come the chase, Suryakumar Yadav ended the proceedings in only one delivery, taking India to their fifth super over victory.
