The 2026 edition of the T20 WC is scheduled to be co-hosted by India & Sri Lanka, and will take place likely between February-March 2026. In the ICC’s Annual General Meeting in Singapore, it has been mooted that more teams be added to the tournament, expanding the range from the already existing 20 teams to 32 sides by 2028.

As per The Forbes, the ICC AGM also saw discussions on making the T20 World Cup into a 32-team affair. Additionally, a six-man group led by a New Zealand official will determine the inclusion of these sides in the next edition of the tournament.

“An expanded 32-team T20 World Cup has been mooted as a working group looks into cricket’s formats and major competitions. The six-man working group will be led by New Zealand’s Roger Twose and comprise bosses from the power nations India, Australia and England,” the report stated.

The decision comes after Italy cricket team made history by qualifying for the T20 Workd Cup 2026 for the first time ever. Along with Joe Burns and co, Netherlands were the other side to seal their berths in the marquee event from the Europe Qualifier.
