India cricket team T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav has silenced those who are questioning the fitness of ODI and Test captain Rohit Sharma. Hours before Team India had beaten New Zealand in the last group stage match of the ICC Champions Trophy, Shama Mohamed of the Indian National Congress (INC) had taken to X (formerly Twitter) and fat-shamed Rohit Sharma.
Rohit Sharma fitness controversy
“Rohit Sharma is fat for a sportsman! Needs to lose weight! And of course, the most unimpressive captain India has ever had!” Shama wrote in a now-deleted post. The comment created a massive controversy.
Many have questioned Rohit Sharma‘s fitness in the past as well, but the opener has continued to succeed irrespective. Hardly, if ever, has the batter missed a match due to injury in the last couple of years. He may not be the fittest cricketer on the planet, but his performance is among the very best.
Suryakumar Yadav backs India captain Rohit Sharma
Suryakumar Yadav has backed his teammate amid the controversy. Not part of India’s ICC Champions Trophy campaign, SKY will play alongside Rohit Sharma in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 for Mumbai Indians (MI) soon. He stated, How can someone who has played international cricket for 18 years be unfit?
“If you see him as a captain, in the last 4 years he has taken the team to the finals of 4 ICC trophies. So it is a big thing, and if a person is playing cricket for 15-20 years, it is a big thing, and I have seen him closely; he works very hard. According to me, he is at the top, and I wish him all the best for the finals,” Suryakumar Yadav told ANI.
