Suryakumar Yadav breaks Sachin Tendulkar's record for most runs in an IPL season for Mumbai Indians

In IPL 2010, Sachin Tendulkar scored 618 runs. Back then, it was the record for most runs scored in a single season. No Mumbai Indians batter was able to surpass him until Suryakumar Yadav did just now.

Another day, another record broken. Suryakumar Yadav has been toppling milestones throughout the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season. And against the Punjab Kings in Jaipur, he broke Sachin Tendulkar’s long-standing record of most runs scored by a Mumbai Indians (MI) batter in a single IPL season.

Suryakumar had come close to breaking Tendulkar’s record in 2023 but fell short by just 14 runs. But two years later, he’s made the record his own. It isn’t a shock that SKY, who’s MI’s greatest-ever batter, is the one who claims Tendulkar’s top spot. If anyone, it’s Suryakumar who deserves it.

Most runs in an IPL season for Mumbai Indians

The 360-degree batter has been the best batter in IPL 2025 as well. He’s not scored less than 25 runs in a single inning this season. That happens to be an IPL and T20 record. No one has ever crossed the 25-run mark 14 consecutive times—well, until Suryakumar did it today.

SKY’s 2023 season was great. He averaged over 40 and struck over 180. But this 2025 might be even better. His runs per ball ratio has come down slightly but his average has skyrocketed. One of the reasons why this edition has been a revelation is because he has been unbeaten 6 times. This means he’s won more matches for MI by staying in the middle.
