Despite being out of the favour of the national selectors, Ajinkya Rahane continues to prove his mettle. The former Mumbai captain scored a century in the game against KSCA Secretary’s XI in game in the KSCA K Thimmapaiah Trophy in Bengaluru on Thursday. Rahane last featured in a Test for India back in Jul 2023 following which he has gone out of the favour of the selectors.
Rahane slams another ton, but is it of any use?
Rahane played a 103-run knock in Mumbai vs KSCA Secretary’s XI, with his knock studded with 12 fours and 2 sixes. His knock helped Mumbai draw the match against the opposition. It is pertinent to point out that Rahane had stepped down as Mumbai’s captain just before the tournament, in a bid to help the side groom a future leader. His ton came in the 2nd innings, after he had scored a 26-run knock off 46 deliveries in the 1st. Despite Rahane’s consistent performances in IPL 2025 and other domestic games, he is unlikely to get another chance to represent India.
Rahane’s list of accolades as captain is commendable. Some of the highlights include winning the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy in 2022/23, Duleep Trophy 2022/23, Ranji Trophy 2023/24 and the Irani Cup in 2024. It is pertinent to point out that Rahane has previously led India in T20Is, ODIs and Tests. He was named KKR’s captain for IPL 2025.
Rahane, who will be playing his 19th first-class season this year, was left out of the West Zone squad in Duleep Trophy. Instead, his Mumbai teammate Shardul Thakur was named captain. Meanwhile, 17-year-old Ayush Mhatre was named the captain of the Mumbai side in the Buchi Babu Invitational Tournament. The Mumbai team in the KSCA tournament is being led by Siddhesh Lad.
