The fifth round of SMAT matches will be played on December 4 in Ahmedabad, Lucknow, Kolkata, and Hyderabad.

The fourth round of the matches in the 2025-26 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) was action-packed. Bat continued to dominate the ball, as we saw several hundreds. Some players returned to form, while others continued to struggle.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi breaking records again

Vaibhav Suryavanshi has become the youngest centurion in SMAT history at 14 years and 250 days of age. The southpaw played with maturity and ended up as the only Bihar batter with a score of over 30. His hundred came off 58 deliveries against Maharashtra. Suryavanshi now has the most T20 hundreds in 2025 for any Indian batter.

Sarfaraz Khan scores 1st hundred in 13 months

Sarfaraz Khan has been in an incredible form rut. The 28-year-old had scored just one fifty in the first leg of the 2025-26 Ranji Trophy, and his last hundred in competitive cricket came in the Bengaluru Test against New Zealand last year. Having struggled with injuries over the last 12 months, Sarfaraz had shed 17 kg of weight, but runs were coming for him. Against Assam, the batter remained unbeaten on 100 (47) as Mumbai won by 98 runs.

Venkatesh Iyer & Sai Sudharsan struggle

Venkatesh Iyer’s SMAT isn’t going as well as he would have liked. Although he scored an unbeaten fifty against Bihar, his other scores are 11, 0, and 6. Against Goa in Kolkata, Venkatesh scored 6 runs from 13 balls. The same’s happening with Sai Sudharsan, who’s scored just 19 runs (13, 1, and 8) in 3 matches for Tamil Nadu.

Delhi cricket reaches a new low

Last month, Delhi lost its first-ever Ranji Trophy match against Jammu and Kashmir. If cricket lovers in Delhi thought that was bad, Delhi has just lost the first-ever domestic match to Tripura. The Nitish Rana-led side failed to chase 158 at the Narendra Modi Stadium.

Kishan & Abhishek Sharma continue form

Ishan Kishan followed up his unbeaten hundred against Tripura with another big score of 93 (50) against Saurashtra. After his record-breaking hundred against Bengal, Abhishek Sharma hit 50 (19) against Baroda. But Abhishek’s innings was outshone by Hardik Pandya’s 77-run knock off 42 deliveries on his return to cricket since his left quadriceps injury during the 2025 Asia Cup.
