The sixth round of the matches in the 2025-26 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) was action-packed. There were last-ball finishes, one veteran pacer was exemplary, and several other batters stood tall.
Shami’s red-hot form continues
After taking a 4-wicket haul against Services, Mohammed Shami has backed that performance with a 3-fer against Puducherry at the Gymkhana Ground in Hyderabad. Just five wickets fell in the first innings, out of which three were pocketed by Shami. The veteran pacer is now the third joint-highest wicket-taker in SMAT 2025-26.
CSK batters dominate
3 Chennai Super Kings (CSK) were on song today. A week after scoring the 3rd fastest SMAT hundred, Urvil Patel scored a lightning 39 from 11 balls against Himachal Pradesh while chasing 194. In what was a last-ball thriller, without Urvil’s innings, Gujarat may have lost. After low scores against Assam and Kerala, Ayush Mhatre has scored an unbeaten fifty (69 off 49) against Chhattisgarh as Mumbai won their fifth match of the season.
Sanju Samson has played a lone warrior innings against Andhra at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow. The wicketkeeper batter remained unbeaten on 73 as Kerala were dismissed for just 119 in the first innings. The next best score after Samson was 13 by MD Nidheesh. Kerala ended up losing, but Samson shone bright.
Tejasvi Jaiswal scores maiden T20 fifty
As his younger brother struck his maiden ODI fifty for India, Tejasvi Jaiswal smashed his maiden T20 hundred for Tripura. Playing against Uttarakhand at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, Tejasvi ended as Tripura’s highest scorer. It was the southpaw’s third T20 match, but his knock didn’t amount to much as Uttarakhand won by 4 wickets.
Abhishek Sharma, Devdutt Padikkal continue golden form
Abhishek Sharma, who’s been smashing bowlers left and right, has scored 62 from 34 as Punjab beat Services by 73 runs. Devdutt Padikkal, who has struck 1 fifty and 1 hundred in his last 2 matches, scored another fifty for Karnataka against Saurashtra in a 1-run defeat.
