India could not have asked for a worse news in their Women’s World Cup 2025 campaign, as tournament’s second highest run-getter, Pratika Rawal has been ruled out of the semis vs Australia; in fact the entire competition. The young opener from Delhi suffered a knee and an ankle injury in the inconsequential match vs Bangladesh on Sunday, while fielding.
Pratika Rawal Out of Women’s World Cup
The same was confirmed by RevSportz on Monday. The incident had occurred during the rain-affected match in Navi Mumbai, during Bangladesh’s 21st over. In an attempt to field the ball on the boundary, her leg was jammed into the ground, which twisted her ankle and knee severely. She was immediately rushed out of the playing area.
IND vs AUS Semis on Oct 29
In the chase too, Amanjot Kaur replaced her as the opener along with Smriti Mandhana. In the context of the semis vs Australia on 29th October, Team India doesn’t really have enough batting resources to replace her properly. It would be a make-shift arrangement, unless a late injury-replacement is called in.
Shafali Verma is an option though, who was overlooked for initial selection, is an opener, has played Australia many times, and tour Australia for the IND A vs AUS A series. There is no report on this front though. Apart from that, what would make things really difficult for Team India is, it could be another rain-affected semis, and if there is no result to the match, Australia would automatically qualify for the final.
