Shreyas Iyer made statement with a scintillating century on Wednesday. Captaining India A, Iyer smashed a quick-fire hundred in a dominating performance against Australia A. The Punjab Kings skipper, who has struggled with a troublesome back injury, but showcased his prowess ahead of the India vs Australia ODIs.
Shreyas Iyer punishes hapless Australia A
Batting first, India A put on a gigantic effort in the 2nd unofficial ODI in Kanpur. After openers Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh fired the hosts to a flier, Shreyas compounded that misery. India A had 135 on the board when their captain walked into bat and he made most of the opportunity on a flat wicket.
The 30-year-old batted with sublime touch, showing no signs of rustiness. With Australia A struggling to find their lines, Iyer held one end in a fine display of attacking batting. Shreyas eventually reached a century of 75 balls, setting his side in course of 400. He eventually managed 110 off just 83, laced with 12 fours and 4 sixes.
Shreyas’ century comes on the back of his decision to take a break from red-ball cricket. Iyer recently requested a 6-month break after struggling with a back issue. The 30-year-old was subsequently omitted from Mumbai’s squad for the Ranji Trophy this year. He also missed out on the IND vs WI Tests.
However, Iyer remains in contention for white ball cricket. In ODIs, Shreyas has carved a space for himself at No.4. In the Champions Trophy earlier this year, he finished as India’s top scorer.
