To expect runs from Shreyas Iyer is obvious. But the talented batter who has been out of the Indian Test side for some time now, isn’t doing himself a favour by failing in red-ball cricket. For the third time in a row now, the 30-year-old was out cheaply, putting his comeback chances in the Test side vs West Indies, in doubt. The latest instance came when he removed for only 8 by Corey Rocchiccioli in the IND A vs AUS A clash on Thursday in Ekana, Lucknow.
Shreyas Iyer red-ball failures alarming
Just two week back, in the Central Zone vs West Zone Duleep Trophy semis, his scanty returns of 25 & 12 meant, that the strong-looking side could not make it to the summit clash. The West Indies series isn’t far away, starts early October, and the team could very well be announced soon, with Shreyas Iyer not being able to grab the opportunity to impress the selectors.
AUS A bowlers trouble IND A
Team India has vulnerabilities in the Test team, where the presence of a solid batter is missed, and Iyer can certainly take over. But his show has to be better when domestic opportunities come his way. In England, where he was not picked, India tried likes of Sai Sudharsan and Karun Nair at No. 3, and both of them weren’t the best.
As far as the IND A vs AUS A match is concerned, the visitors went on to score 532/6 in the first innings. In reply, India were reduced to 222/4 at one stage. From there on, Devdutt Padikkal and Dhruv Jurel went on to score fifties. Earlier, Sam Konstas and Josh Philippe had scored tons.
