India cricket team spinner Kuldeep Yadav created instant impact on making his return to Tests as he got rid of Shai Hope with a stunning delivery. Making his first appearance in the longest format of the game for the first time since the series against NZ in 2024, the leg spinner wasted no time as it took him just 8 deliveries to get his first wicket. Hope’s dismissal marked the end of the first session on Day 1 of IND vs WI 1st Test in Ahmedabad where he visitors have already lost half their side.
Kuldeep makes Shai look Hope-less
Hope attempted to drive a delivery off Kuldeep which was flighted and drifted across. The Windies batter had no idea how the ball went past the inside edge of his bat and crashed into the top of the off-stump, giving the spinner his first wicket in the game. Hope, who was quite literally West Indies’ only hope in the 1st session, was hence forced to depart after scoring 26 runs off 36 deliveries.
Opting to bat first, West Indies got off to the worst possible start, with Bumrah and Siraj wreaking havoc on the top-order. Siraj drew the first blood as he got rid of opener Tagenarine Chanderpaul (0) as he was caught behind by Jurel. A couple of overs later, Bumrah managed to get John Campbell (8) caught behind.
It was then Siraj’s turn to strike twice. He removed Brandon King (13) with a peach of a delivery that saw the Windies batter leave the ball in a bizarre fashion. The brain fade led to the ball uprooting the batter’s middle sump. KL Rahul then took a brilliant catch in the slips off Siraj to get rid of Alick Athanaze (12).
Chase (22*) and Hope attempted to steady the ship with a 48-run partnership. However, it was Kuldeep who had the last laugh as he got rid of Hope with ease, putting West Indies further on the backfoot.
